USBxtractor Review
April 30th, 2009
USBxtractor was provided by www.vgcrepairs.com
I have to say when I first seaw the pictures on the internet of the USBxtractor I was far from impressed. I was thinking this thing is going to be big and bulky, but after receiving and actually holding the USBxtractor in my hand I'm actually very impressed, it's not much bigger than my thumb drive.
Next I'm going to be testing the USBxtractor with both Jungle Flasher v1.59beta, and Xtractor Reader Latest Version 2.9
Part 1: The Contents
Our USBxtractor was received with the following components
1- USB Xtractor (black)
1- USB Cable
1- 360 Power Unit (Dongle)
1- Common ground wire (Red)
Part 2: Size Comparison
USBXtractor
Here I have use a SanDisk Cruzer 4gig thumb drive for comparison, as you can see it's not really that much bigger. The USBxtractor has a USB2 plug on the top of it to make it easier to use and not as bulky as the original Xtractor.
Power Dongle
As you can see they completely resigned the power adapter v1.3 ( Power Dongle ), there is no more cable. Now the adapter plugs directly into the back of the drive itself, this is a nice feature that will help eliminate the direction confusion that so many people seem to have.
Another changed feature is their is no more Auto MODEB now their is a nice little push button switch.
* The eject button is different then the original Xtractor this one you have to hold the eject button to eject the tray, and once you let go of the button the tray starts to close, just a little heads up on that one.
*If you need to start the drive in Mode-B (Only supported for Hitachi Drives), then you can turn on the switch while having pressed the MODEB button (next to the switch), after turning on you can release the MODEB switch (after 2 seconds) and that will start the MODEB on Hitachi drives
Part 3: Installation
I'm not going into great details on how to install the USBxtractor, since you should know how to do a simple hardware install.
Files need: Self Install Drivers or Manual Install Drivers
I used the self install drivers, because it's easier and I'm kind of lazy feeling today :), install was very simple
Part 4: Components hooked up
Here is our Liteon Drive with the Power Dongle and sata cable hooked up to the drive

Now for the fun part the testing of this device
Part 5: Dumping Keys and Flashing
*I HAVE PREVIOUSLY DISABLED MY VIA6421 CARD, DELETED THE DRIVER, RE ENABLED THE CARD AND REBOOTED MY PC, BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW THE VIA PROBLEM WITH LITEON ERASE.
Jungle Flasher v1.59beta two words " ROCK SOLID "
Team JF has again amazed me with the release of 1.59b it has full " Click 2 Read " Support. It was nice to hold a nice small device, with one hand then having to mess around with a USB cable attached to the xtractor like the original one. Click 2 Read is and amazing feature makes modding even easier and with Team JF & Xtractor working together the modding community is becoming a much easier and smoother place.
Xtractor Reader 2.9 also ran smooth the "Press 2 Read " button is a nice added touch makes it virtually one handed key dumps, which is very nice. Not like it's actually hard to use your other hand. while touching the TX spot, Press the "Press 2 Read" button on the USBxtractor for about 2 seconds. On the Xtractor Reader application you will see a small window asking to confirm the reading procedure. If you having troubles getting this screen you can simply click on the "Get Key and Files" button on the application and reading will start immediately. Remember have the probe touching the TX spot all the time.
Part 6: Conclusion
The USBxtractor with Power Dongle is super compact, very well designed.
The USBxtractor is completely sealed now with a nice hard plastic case in either blue or black
The Power Dongle redesign is extremely user friendly, making the chances of plugging the dongle in improperly virtually impossible. ( I'm sure someone will figure out a way though, damn people read and pay attention and you'll be fine ).
